On the evening of June 18th, 2025, the Havelock City Clubhouse buzzed with energy as The Blaze. Imperial College’s ultimate inter-university sports showdown was officially launched at its press meet. It wasn’t just the announcement of a tournament.
The event brought together not just leaders and athletes, but a shared vision. Among the dignitaries present were:

- Mr. Praveen Namasivayam – Head of Student Recruitment & Sales
- Mr. Yougaprasanth Thangavel – Head of Operations & Sales
- Mr. Shehan Seneviratne – Head of Digital Transformation
- Mr. Janidu Himsara – Chairperson
- Miss Nethmini Kurukulasuriya – Treasurer
One of the most inspiring parts of the night, the captains and representatives from universities across the country, standing shoulder-to-shoulder. Each one of them is ready to lead their teams into what’s shaping up to be a fierce, three-week battle across sports like cricket, rugby, basketball and football.
Friends from the media also joined the celebration, helping to amplify the voice of The Blaze and bring it to homes, screens, and conversations around the country.
BLAZE kicked off on Saturday, 21st June with Day 1 of the cricket matches to be held at both the Air Force Grounds and SLDCC Grounds while the final matches will be on Day 2 (22nd June) at the SLDCC Grounds. The following weekend, on 28th June, the rugby battles will take place at the Racecourse Grounds. The third weekend will witness the basketball matches at St. Joseph’s College Courts on 5th July followed by the football matches and the grand finale on 6th July at the Racecourse Grounds.
