“Equality”-equal access to opportunities
‘What the blacks fought for; feminists wept for
What? When? Why?
The word “equality” delineates equal rights and choice for all! The lens through which this stereotypical society looks upon people based on their gender, age, race & religion is quite biased. Implementing this policy of “equality” plays a dominant role in ensuring ‘Social equilibrium’ of a nation. At times where the aristocratic power of a certain gender, racial, religious group overpowers or gets neglected, then equality comes into play.
Necessity of “equality”

Sounds rightful?
‘Equality feminism’ a feminist movement set in the motive of bringing gender equality is and was a success, being the voice to the voiceless. The common notion that arose about how the so-called ‘iron men’ are stronger & dexterous than women, and became celebrated stars in the professional, political fields while women were shut behind the doors, evoked feminists to fight for equal rights!

‘Fight for racial equality’- the civil rights movement- where african-americans rebelled for equal rights-was a prominent landmark of the struggle for racial equality! The animosity shown towards the black, still prevails-I would say! In 2020‘The african- american- George Floyd was mercilessly murdered by a white-american police officer. The whole black community in America protested for justice for George Floyd’s loss!

‘Ageism’-In Sri Lanka, age discrimination is a very common issue! ‘The old are weak and feeble', they say. We fail to understand how much knowledge, experience & capabilities the elderly have and are rather ignorant of them. We need to find ways and means to utilize their experience appropriately and not exhibit their physical inabilities.
Further when considering the eligibility for an employment the applicant should be skilled and have proper qualifications. Labelling it as ‘implementing equality’ one cannot employ uneducated people to work (Which, if does, can cause inequality instead!). ‘Equality’ should be enforced in a way so that it is not an obstacle for one’s freedom for personal desires and choice.
To conclude, ‘Equality’ is necessary for the happiness, peace & contentment of all. The form in which it is applied might vary with time, region and culture. But remember! equality must always be righteous and fit for needs and wants of all.
